  • Was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer.
  • Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.
  • Since 2012, when Trayvon Martin was murdered, there has been further executions of black lives. The latest one that had the headlines worldwide was George Floyd when he was murdered by a police officer.
  • There are a lot of different opinions over social media from all races / backgrounds, but to give you some history, there are some movies named below to assist you to broaden your understanding / knowledge:

Racism:

  • Is a word used regularly in this society and some people may not understand how far back in history this began, and why people of a black ethnicity would take it very personal?

 

Protest:

  • Began in 1955 when Rosa Parks, a black woman, would not give up her seat to a white passenger. This was apart of the city’s segregation laws. She was arrested and jailed for this. Due to this a one-day boycott went underway, protesting her arrest. Due to the success s of this boycott it inspired black leaders to organize a long-term boycott.
  • Ongoing protests have taken place for mistreatment, unlawful acts, and murders towards black people of all ages and gender.
